Default Z28 Trouble

I have a 1986 Z28. It has a 305 with Tuned Port Injection. When the temperature is warm or hot outside, it starts right up without a problem. But, if it get under around about 50 degrees, I have trouble getting it started, or it won't start at all. My father and I checked using the fuel rail, and for some reason, it's not getting gas. Does anybody have any idea to why this is happening?

hello my best guess wold be the fuel pump unfortunatly its quit the job to pull ill give you a quick step by step... thise shold take about five to 7 hours for the novice mhecanic...
and basik hand tools will do the trick... now first of all its been a few months since ive done this so if you run into any problems just post, i try to check the site evry night...

so here we go

First youll need to jack up the rear end, make sure that it is on jackstands or ramps(you will be under the car pulling and shaking things) this is very important for your safty...

next open the fuel door and loosen and remove the skrews holding the coller in place pull the coller and fuel door..

next there are 3 hoses to a round router loosen and remove the hoses (note there are an inlet an outlet and a vent they are all sized diffrently and will fit back one way only)

next you will ned to remove your mufflers you can do so by cutting the pipe with a sawsall or hacksaw (note dont worrie about cutting them an exoust shop will only charge about 10-20 bucks to reweld it)(also make sure to cut it in an open area and out of the way of the tank)

next you will need to loosen and remove your panhard bar(note this is a 31/5 to 4 foot bar it is mounte at an angle to the frame and the axle by two bolts)

once it is out there shold be one other bar (i dont remember exactly if there is it will come out the same way)

next support the fuel tank a block of wood and a bottle jack will work

next loosen and remove the two front bolts in the two straps holding the fuel tank in place then loosen and remove the rear bolts unless they are unaccesible in wich case pull them down (dont be affraid to bend them they will bend back easily)

the fuel tank shold be loos at this point remove the jack with coution wiggle the tank out (bieng carfull not to bend the filler tube)

drop the tank and move it behind the car do not drag it once it is out and in a safe place on the floor or a work bench (there is a lock ring around the pump assembly)

using a hammer and a wood punch you can make one if you have to it needs to be about 6-10 inches long and 3/4 by3/4 in diamiter (DO NOT USE OTHER METALS) doing so may couse sparks and with fuel that is obviously a bad idea..

using the wood punch place it on a tooth and hit it lightly counter clockwise it will unllock

pull the assembly out and replace the pump and filter.

place it back in and use grease to help it to turn easily

putting the tank in will requir alot of wiggiling to get back in place again make sure to not bend the filler tube

hold it in and replace the 2 bolts through the straps make sure to put the anti squeek strips back in place

other than that installation is revers of removal good luck oh and have fun lol
